The Lely High athletic complex is at the south end of a long, narrow campus where all fans, athletes, band, coaches and first responders must come from a single point north of the complex.

Through this single point of entry, we saw an opportunity to form a gateway to the athletic fields.

Thinking of architecture as street furniture, we took advantage of the point where the single path splits, one path leading to home bleachers and the baseball complex and the other leading to visitor bleachers, football field and emergency access.

We placed simple rectangles just beyond the point where the paths diverge, one booth aligned with the “home” path and the other rotated 32 degrees, in line with the “visitors” path.

A continuous roof ties the booths together. The cantilevered portion of the roof, protecting the visitors’ booth is lopped off at 32 degrees so as not to interfere with the passage of emergency vehicles.
